The tennis club at Hartfield is an important part of the community.
It forms part of the Town Croft which includes the cricket and football pitches – there is also an active stoolball team.
The tennis club have two hard courts on the Croft, in the centre of the village. There is activity most evenings and through the weekends year round. You may even find tennis being played on Boxing Day – subject to the depth of snow! With the latest technology floodlights on one of the courts, play continues late into the evenings.

Hartfield is a vibrant village and many of its residents, as well as many other Wealden residents, use the facilities.
The club is used 52 weeks a year and is open every day.
After a short interregnum the club hopes to resume entering a men’s team in the local Weald League in late 2026.

The Bear Inn is located opposite the tennis courts and we use it for our meetings and to provide food and drink for visiting teams.
The Bear Inn is a friendly, family orientated 15th Century Inn that prides itself in providing a blend of traditional and contemporary pub cuisine. The pub offers a fantastic selection of locally sourced ales and fine beers.
Please be advised that the courts will be unavailable from 1100-1200 for four Tuesday mornings in March commencing 10th March. Our coach George Potts will be working with the children of Hartfield school. We need to encourage the youngsters as I’m sure you would agree!
Also it appears that the external light to the right of the clubhouse door is no longer switching off automatically after a short delay as it should do. Until this is fixed please make sure it is turned off by pressing the button switch before leaving the club. Please leave a slight gap between the insertion of tokens in the the floodlights slot, otherwise they may get jammed.
